不过，pass这个词并没有这么简单。
1、pass 和pass on
pass做及物动词的时候，表示通过。但是，做不及物动词的时候，却有否定的意思，一般和介词on连用。
例句：
Congratulations!
You passed the preliminary interview.
恭喜你!你通过初试了。
I am sorry to inform you that we have to pass on your application for poverty allowance.
很抱歉通知你，我们不得不拒绝你的贫困补助申请。
pass on还有传递的意思，一般与to连用，后面接动词，或者与for连用，后面接某人。
例句：
She can pass on the message for the man.
她可以为这个男人传递信息。
2、pass down
这个词组常用被动语态，与介词to连用，表示传承的意思。
例句：
Patrioti *** should be passed down from generation to generation.
爱国主义精神应该世代传承。
3、pass key
这里的pass做名词用，表示通行的意思，pass key通行的钥匙，这是具有保密性质的，也就是私人钥匙、专用钥匙。
例句：
You should not have lent John this pass key. After all,he has sticky fingers.
你本不应该把这把专用钥匙借给约翰的，毕竟他这人手脚不干净

1. 继续前进，向前走：
He bowed to me and passed on.

2. 把…传给(下一代)：

3. 传送；传达；转移；交给：
He has passed me on all the materials which he had got together.

4. 裁决；判决；宣判：
A judge passes a sentence on a guilty person.

5. 死去，逝世：
I'm sorry to hear that your favourite uncle passed on last week.

6. 对…发表意见；对…作出判断；审核：
The university passed on his application and found him acceptable.
大学审核了他的申请书，认为他可以入学。
7. 转给；进入；传授：
If you can't do the job yourself,pass it on to someone who can.

8. 剑术戳去；刺：
He passed his knife on his opponent' s body.他用刀刺进对手的身体。

1. 传递;告诉： He passed the news to his wife. 他把这消息告诉了妻子。
2. 传给；传到：
The old man died and his estate passed to his wife.

pass…on to把…传去
pass sth on to sb递给某人某物；传

pass on … to…把…传递给某人
